Overview: One of the many goals of Psychology is to enhance the quality of life for humans. Part of this contribution would be regarding parenting and physical punishment of children. The American Psychological Association as well as other national and international organizations have discussed the negative impact that physical punishment has on children. Our goal with this assignment is to understand the implications of physical punishment and investigate some of the alternatives parents, guardians, and family members have when disciplining a child.

Instructions: Using the textbook (pages 263-267), write one and a half page essay on how you would, as a professional, advise new parents or parents that might be struggling with physical punishment of children. In the paper be sure to:

Include at least three alternatives.

Do not use any personal experiences.

Incorporate the textbook and at least one other scholarly source.

Define physical punishment.

Discuss some of the contributors to physical punishment (e.g., socioeconomic, cultural, etc.)
