Instructions

1. Define empirical and theoretical probability.
2. Describe a situation where empirical probability would be used.
3. Explain why your situation represents empirical probability.

Example

• After defining theoretical and empirical probability, I might say that blindly drawing one card from a standard deck of cards 200 times (and recording the card draw) to see the probability of drawing a king is an empirical probability.
• A peer may reply that instead of experimenting to determine the actual probability, I could use the knowledge that there are 4 kings in a deck of 52 cards and calculate the probability to be 4/52.
