Pancakes Ltd, located in Sweetland, concluded a contract with Light Wings Airlines for the delivery of maple syrup from its supplier in Lollyland. An air waybill issued by Light Wings Airlines noted receipt and shipment of four pallets of maple syrup. The consignment was to be delivered to Pancakes Ltd by 9 January 2020. However, soon after the air waybill was issued an internal armed conflict broke out in Lollyland which was followed by the closure of Lollyland's airspace. It was not until three months later that air traffic from Lollyland was re-established. When the consignment of maple syrup finally arrived in Sweetland on 17 April 2020, it was discovered that one entire pallet, and one third of the contents of one of the three pallets that did arrive, were missing. On 12 May 2020, Pancakes Ltd telephoned Light Wings Airlines complaining about a delayed delivery and the missing parts of the consignment, and demanding compensation.
