Parents often claim that their babies prefer one type of music over another. But, do infants really have the ability to make aesthetic judgments about music? For this project, design an experiment that tests the perceptual abilities of infants.

1. an introductory paragraph thatsummarizes research on infants' sensitivity to sounds and their preferences for one kind of sound versus another.

2. In the main section of the essay,design an experiment (using any of the methods such as operant conditioning, habituation...etc) to examine whether 4-month-olds prefer one kind of music versus another. Be sure to include details about yourmethods(what method you used, explain it in depth)

3. Stateoperational definitions of the behaviors you will measure (8 pts.).

• E.g., if you are measuring looking time, tell me HOW. Are you counting how long baby is looking? How will you determine where the baby is looking?

4. Name the independent and dependentvariables?

5. Whatfactors will you control andhow?

6. Whatchanges would you have to see in the dependent variable(s) if babies do, in fact, prefer one kind of music over another?

7. Discuss potentialproblems and sources ofbias.

8. Conclude with adiscussion of the expected results and theimplications for infants' perceptual abilities if infants make aesthetic music judgments .
