PART 1 (20 pts): I was thinking the TV show 'Friends'.

For this assignment, you will select a source from popular media that you enjoy (e.g., tv show, movie, podcast, YouTube video, etc.). The chosen media cannot already be geared towards psychology (e.g., a YouTube video explaining a psychology concept) as this assignment is geared towards identifying social psychology in everyday experiences.

For this assignment, you will have an opportunity to earn half points back on corrections. However, you must complete the corrections for the assignment within 1 week of receiving the grade on the assignment.

Though different parts of this assignment are due at separate points of the semester to ensure you are making progress, I recommend thinking about the social psychological concepts and looking at available empirical articles while selecting your popular media source. Once your media sources are approved you will not be able to change them. Therefore, when selecting your media source, consider the following questions:

• How might you go about finding psychological concepts in your chosen media source?
• What social psychological concepts are relevant in this media source? Do these social psychological concepts reveal underlying information in the media source (e.g., relationships between characters)? Are there specific examples in the media source to demonstrate these social psychological concepts?
• What empirical articles are available for these social psychological concepts? Are these available empirical articles relevant to the media source? Does each article give insight into what is happening in the media source? Do these empirical articles give insight into the specific examples from the media source (i.e., those that demonstrate the social psychological concepts)?

For PART 1 (1.5-2 pages, double-spaced) of this assignment you must include the followinginformation:

• (5 pts) Choose a media source and give the title. Include what type of media source it is (e.g., tv show, movie, podcast).
• (10 pts) Background summary of the media source:
  • While it is possible that I have seen or heard of your chosen media source, your background information should be clear explanation for someone who has never seen or heard of your chosen media source.
• (5 pts) Discuss if it explicitly discusses psychology. Additionally, how you might go about finding psychological concepts in your chosen media source.
  • Remember, it should not already discuss the psychological concepts you focus on (g., if they explicitly discuss operant conditioning, you cannot choose operant conditioning as your psychological concept).
