Part 1 (40 points) The University of Alabama SupeStore is planning to offer new t-shirts and polo shirts for the upcoming season. While there are a lot of students and fans who are interested in the new season's merchandise, demand is still somewhat sensitive to price. After examining the past data, SupeStore staff has come up with the following demand curves: T-Shirt Demand = 55 - 0.65 (T-shirt Price) + 0.2 (Polo-shirt Price) Polo-Shirt Demand = 85 0.54 (Polo-shirt Price) + 0.15 (T-shirt Price) The SupeStore procures T-shirts and Polo-Shirts from a local supplier for $7 and $12 per unit, respectively. Unfortunately, there is limited space at the Supe Store. The staff decides to dedicate 5760 sq. inches to store the t-shirts and polo-shirts. Each T-shirt requires 80 square inches and each polo shirt requires 108 square inches. The staff would like to ensure that Polo shirts are more expensive than the t- shirts. Part a: (30 pts) Determine the profit maximizing prices for the new season merchandise. What demand levels will result from the prices? Part c: (10pts) What is the marginal value of space at the SupeStore? (e.g., if the available space were to increase by 1 square inch, what would be the benefit?)
