Part 1:

(Compare Means )

You have received some confusing information. One of the members of your training staff has just completed a program of training modules for staff in two workgroups in the operations division. Though you haven't done any formal analysis as yet, it appears that one group has evaluated the quality of the trainer substantially differently than the other. You do know for a fact that the workgroups' leaders have very different opinions on the quality of the trainer based on each person's past experiences with the trainer. One finds the trainer to be charismatic and engaging, while the other finds the trainer to be nitpicky and punitive in providing feedback. You suspect that the leaders may each have influenced participants from the groups and may have affected the trainer ratings (meaning the groups are considered different). To confirm your suspicions and to provide you evidence for potential policy prescriptions, compare the means using the appropriate test. Would this be a one-tail or two-tail t-test? Determine if there is a significant finding. Assume an alpha level of 0.05.

Part 2:

(Compare Means)

On a similar subject, you are preparing a report to senior leadership to recommend whether or not a particular technical training course should be retained for the following year. To form your recommendation, you plan to demonstrate whether or not, the training has been effective based upon an increase between pretest and posttest scores. The scores of the participants are provided below. Note participant 6 was unable to complete the training and did not complete the posttest. How do we treat participant 6's results? Would this be a one-tail or a two-tail t-test? Determine if the training is effective and therefore should or should not be retained. Assume an alpha level of 0.05.
