Research their theories and a brief overview of their ideas. You are to organize their ideas under the following subheadings.

1. Biographical Details

2. Significant contributions to legal/criminological theory. Please explain their theories with a view to answering the following two questions:

1. Why do people break the law?
2. Why do people obey the law?

For each theorist, find two sources that attempt to answer these questions.

3. Choose a contemporary event in which a criminal offense has occurred (i.e. the Sandy Hook school shooting). Explain how each of the theories would explain the event.

4. Choose which theory you think best explains the phenomenon of crime. Give reasons as to why you think this theory does the best job of explaining why crime happens.
