For example, it is not enough to write "I am grateful for my parents". Of course, many people are grateful for their parents. Why are you AT THE MOMENT grateful for them? So, be more specific and explain fully!

I am grateful for my MOM today. I stayed up too late last night playing video games and then slept through my alarm this morning. As a result, I missed my bus and I was afraid that the next bus would not arrive on time in order to get me to campus to write my midterm test. Rather than reading me the riot act, my mom offered to drive me on her way to work, even though it meant she had to leave half an hour earlier than she normally would.
