The term Play it Forward means giving back financially, and donating our time and skills to make a difference. Thanks to our players more than $23 billion has been delivered to support communities, provincial programs and services, charities and major events that have helped shape B.C. Burnaby Festivals and Events The City of Burnaby uses a portion of its provincial gaming revenue to support a number of festivals and events throughout the community. One event supported that received funding is the Giro Di Burnaby, the fast and exciting professional criterium cycling race which is part of the larger BC Superweek Pro Cycling Series. This event brings the streets of Burnaby Heights to life, and features pro men's and women's teams from around the world. The Coquitlam Firefighters Charitable Society The City of Coquitlam provides annual grants to non-profit, community-based organizations through the Spirit of Coquitlam Grant Program. Funding for this is derived from Casino Host Agreement revenue. Since 2002, the City has awarded $8.45 million to over 200 different organizations, such as the Coquitlam Firefighters Charitable Society. The Society supports various initiatives, including their flagship Nutritional Breakfast and Snack Program. Meals and snacks are delivered by volunteers in several elementary schools across Coquitlam. Kamloops Music in the Park For more than 26 years, BCLC has been a proud sponsor of Music in the Park, Canadas longestrunning free music festival. Providing residents and tourists alike with exceptional performances from talented local, national and international artists. BCLCs 7th Annual Midsummer Music Jam was held on Wednesday, July 24 featuring awardwinning Canadian country band The Washboard Union. Kamloops Rivers Trail Hiking is one of the most popular activities amongst British Columbians. The Kamloops Rivers Trail is a diverse urban trail that runs along the Thompson and North Thompson River valleys. In 2013, the City of Kamloops used more than $43,000 from its share of provincial gaming revenue generated by Cascades Casino Kamloops and Chances Kamloops to improve signage and add floral displays along the trail. 3 From About Us, Kamloops Food Bank, Dec. 2020, kamloopsfoodbank.org Our Story The Kamloops Food Bank was founded in 1981 by Mr. Hank Woodland. It started at the Kamloops United Church as a way to assist people through the devastating effects of the high inflation rates of the early 1980s. In 2013, the Kamloops Food Bank completed a building renovation and expansion. A&Ts Project Development was key to the completion of this project. Retailers Approximately 3,500 retailers across B.C. sell national and provincial lottery tickets. Henry Small, Organizer, Music in the Park: I've never seen this amount of talent in a small community. It's a great community for music. Mike, Owner, Eats Amore: Music in the Park is a hub for Kamloops. Its a place for everyone to come every night in July and August. Small: We try to do something different every night for sixty nights. Community Member: I love Music in the Park because of its community feeling, and I like the live music and food trucks. Kamloops Community Member: Good music, good food. Bernadette Siracky, Executive Director, Kamloops Food Bank: It brings hundreds and hundreds of people out every night to listen to local talent, and while it's doing that, it supports our local organization. So for us at the food bank, Music in the Park gives us an opportunity to connect and to engage with our community members in a meaningful way and with our Locking in Hope promotion, they give us an opportunity to sell locks and support what we do on a daily basis. Without support from corporations and businesses like BCLC and events like Music in the Park, it would be really difficult to do what we do, so we're very grateful. Community Member: I love that there's something going on every night. Small: We have a pretty good crowd. People really enjoy it. Community Member: If it wasn't for BCLC, these things wouldn't be able to happen, so we're thankful for that.
