Part I: Home Network Design (10 pts)

Create a Word or Writer file called YourNameAssignment10 (So if your name were Bob Dylan, the file would be called BobDylanAssignment10)

Create a Use MS Visio or any free diagramming software like draw.io to create a simple home network diagram. Create the network specified in the assignment. NOTE: THIS IS NOT A DIAGRAM OF YOUR PERSONAL HOME NETWORK!

Start with a house. You'll need to enlarge the house (you will learn how to do this by reading the software's help topics or by experimentation) to be able to put all "inside" devices inside the house graphic. You may substitute a large rectangle to represent the house -- and place all "inside" devices inside the rectangle. This house must be labeled Your Name house So if my name were Parker Posey, it would be labeled Parker Posey's house

The home network you are to design consists of the following network devices inside the house:

a hardware firewall

a home computer (without wireless capabilities)

a wireless laptop

a modem without a built in router or firewall

a printer hard-wired to the home computer.

a router (with built-in switch). This router does NOT have wireless capabilities, and does NOT include a modem.

a Wireless Access Point (WAP). The WAP does not include a switch or a router.

One of these network devices is meant to be connected to the Internet.

Additionally, outside of the house, you need:

a person labeled with your name (e.g. Parker Posey)

a cell phone placed near the person.

a cell tower.

An Internet cloud

Label ALL devices to make it clear what each one is.

All devices (everything other than the person and the house) must be connected to at lease one other device, using either

Solid lines for hard-wired connections.

Dashed lines for wireless connections.

Wired and wireless connections must touch the symbols, graphics, or specified alternatives at both ends of the connection. Any single line (wired or wireless) may not connect more than two devices - use a separate line for each device connection.

NOTE: Most shapes for the devices should be available in your drawing program. If you can't find a particular shape for a device (e.g. cell tower) use a reasonable shapes (e.g. triangle) instead.

Take a screen shot of your work and paste it to YourNameAssignment10

Part II: Business Network Design (10 pts)

Create a business-style network diagram based on the information given below. This network has a digital connection to the ISP (T1/T3/Fiber), so do not incorporate a modem anywhere in your diagram. Also, do not add more than one network connection for any Ethernet Desktop or Server.

Design a business network consisting of the following:

1 wired Ethernet LAN with 4 Desktop PCs and 1 PC Server

4 wireless desktop computers

4 wireless laptop computers

At least one standalone Router (without modem, switch, or wireless capabilities)

At least one standalone Switch (without modem, router, or wireless capabilities)

At least one standalone Wireless Access Point (without modem, switch, or router capabilities)

Firewall A standalone dedicated Firewall (without modem, switch, wireless or router capabilities)

Wired network Laser Printer

Server Connected Inkjet Printer

Internet

All Computers must have access to the Internet. Assume all devices are in the same building

Label ALL devices to make it clear what each one is.

PART III: OSI Model ( 5 pts)

Create a 2 column table in YourNameAssignment10.

In the first column, list the 7 layers of the OSI model

In the second column, place these terms (one per cell) so that they appear in the correct layer of the OSI model

ASCII

TCP

IP

cables

HTTP

WAP

WinSock
