Part II: SPSS Application
These questions require the use of SPSS. Remember you must submit all of your work within this word document. You will need to take a screen shot of your data view if necessary, or copy and paste your output into the spaces below. Remember to report the exact p value provided by SPSS output - simply reporting p<.05 or p>.05 is not acceptable (unless SPSS output states p=.000 - in that case you can report p<.001).
A researcher wants to study a current theory that those who are more susceptible to hypnosis are more prone to experience changes to their sense of agency (being in control of one's actions and their outcomes). She also collects data on their personal belief in hypnosis. She recruits a sample of 23 participants and administers the Stanford Hypnotic Susceptibility Scale:C (SHSS:C, Weitzenhoffer and Hilgard, 1962) and the Sense of Agency Rating Scale (SOARS, Polito et al., 2013). On the SHSS:C, higher scores indicate being more susceptible to hypnotism (a person is easier to hypnotize). On the SOARS measure, higher scores indicate changes to a person's sense of agency, or control. To evaluate their personal belief in hyponosis, a Likert-based score was calculated from several questions, with a lower number indicating disbelief in hypnosis and a higher number indicating stronger belief in hypnosis (BELIEF). The final variable in this dataset is whether someone believes in an afterlife or not (no afterlife is scored 0; belief in afterlife is scored 1). This data set is located in the current module and is titled "Correlation & Regression Assignment SPSS Data Set 1."
19.
Conduct a Pearson correlation coefficient analysis to determine whether there is a positive relationship between susceptibility to hypnosis (SHSS) and belief in hypnosis (BELIEF). Paste the relevant SPSS output below.
