2. Many state judges are elected in popular elections and serve for limited terms. In contrast, all federal judges (whether on the Supreme Court, Courts of Appeal, or District Courts) are appointed by the President with the approval of the Senate. Once on the bench, federal judges serve for life, or until they voluntarily choose to retire. Which of these two systems do you think is a better way to select judges, and why?
