Past research has found evidence for an immigrant health advantage in the United States. That is, foreign-born adults have been found to have better health than U.S.-born adults on a number of outcomes. What about weight? The 2014 General Social Survey asked respondents how much they weighed without shoes. The mean for the 69 foreign-born women in the sample was 149.1 lbs. with a standard deviation of 33.8 lbs. Among the 509 U.S.-born women in the sample, the mean was 169.0 lbs. with a standard deviation of 41.2 lbs. Is there evidence that in the population of U.S. adults that, on average, foreign-born women tend to weigh less than U.S.-born women? Answer the question by using the information provided and conducting a two-samples t test. Give the null and research hypotheses, find the p-value, identify the decision rule, indicate your decision and on what it is based, and interpret the result. Use a rejection level or alpha of .05. Show all the steps. Label the parts of your answer using the outline below.(Hint: You do not have to calculate the obtained t or its associated degrees of freedom. They were generated using the SPSS statistical software package, and are given in the outline below.)
