Peer response to discussion post
Jack Welch was the CEO of General Electric and was deemed one of the best managers in recent history due to his various skills that enabled him to succeed as a leader. One of skills that were highlighted was his ability to make decisions effectively on who should be managers and who shouldn't. I have to agree with this because these are the individuals who will run day to day employees and make decisions that can make or break the business as it operates. Additionally, he was also known for speaking candidly when he met with other employees and what he expected of other managers. For example, he reminded everyone that you should split employees based on performance in the company by 20% being the top, 70% middle and 10% the bottom, which with no sugar coating anything should be fired. I agree with this method of how to retain and let go of employees because often times companies get used to leaving individuals who are bottom performers for years and years, when a need to fire them comes, they are left with not much to vouch for but also, will have a hard time finding a job. Last but not least, he was curious about the company, employees, and would ask every question he could to ensure he was well informed to make the best decisions for the company.
