Peer Work 1:

The book "Even the Rat Was White" served the objective of presenting historical psychological perspectives that opposed the prevalent narrative of white supremacy and scientific racism. The book demonstrated how psychology has been employed to support and maintain racial oppression. The contributions of African-American psychologists and other persons of color have also been erased and ignored in psychology. The goal of the book is to educate and motivate readers to question psychology's presumptions and biases.

In my perspective, "Even the Rat Was White" changed psychologists' opinions of African Americans. It shed light on the history of racism in psychology and helped expose preconceptions that already existed. This work was crucial in challenging the status quo and advancing a more inclusive and impartial understanding of African Americans in psychological study.

There is conflicting research on the stress levels of HBCU students of African-American descent. African-American students who attend PWIs report less stress from racial and social issues than African-American students who do not. HBCUs offer a more encouraging and affirming environment. These students continue to feel stressed out by their academic obligations, financial difficulties, personal troubles, and mental health problems.
