Peer you respond too
Discussion Question: Discuss at least four potential problems in creating accurate duration estimates for activities and two methods for dealing with each potential problem. Remember to cite all sources in APA format. RESPONSE POSTS Detailed, well developed ideas: illustrates understanding of the topic and its related concepts including original ideas 40 (20 per response) Student engaged classmates: student replied to the posts made by the instructor and other students (up until Sunday evening); student's posts & replies relate directly to the weekly topic by exploring the various aspects (details) through discussing or debating the topic and adding original ideas to the content with textbook or other citations for support. Each additional post is at least 45 complete sentences with proper grammar and spelling. Response to instructors request for additional information to initial post does NOT count as one of the required response posts. Week 2 Discussion Estimating activity durations is the process of approximating the number of work periods needed to complete individual activities with estimated resources. (Kloppenborg, 2023, p. 289) Some potential problems in creating accurate duration estimates for activities may be due to omissions, general uncertainties in the estimation, common cause variations, and not reporting early completion of rework. When it comes to omissions, two remedies for this potential problem are refining scope and WBS (Work Breakdown Structure), and making checklists, template, and playing devil's advocate. Having structure and a clear plan in place will denitely help a project manager stay on top of their duration estimation. Two methods for dealing with general uncertainties in the estimate are facilitating the rolling wave plan (finishing one part of the project and having every detail of the next planned) and learning curves (the quicker you work, the more you get done.) For common cause variations, you may use the PERT (program evaluation and review technique) method or the Monte Carlo simulation. PERT is just a concept used to explain that different individuals' tasks may affect the overall duration of time. The Monte Carlo simulation is a computerized mathematical technique that allows people to account for risk in quantitative analysis and decision making. (Kloppenborg, 2023, p. 300) Lastly, not reporting early completion of rework is another potential problem. Two methods to help with that may be project leadership and project communications. Communication and leadership during projects are key when completing them on time. WC: 265 Reference Kloppenborg, T. J. (2023).
