Based upon your professional expectation and the employability skills listed above, develop your self-assessment tool using the chart below. If you currently do not possess a particular skill needed for your profession or chosen career path, discuss how you will obtain that skill (i.e. a course identified on your degree plan, internship, project, community organization, volunteer opportunity, etc.).

  1. This Self-Assessment Tool Template is designed to help you develop your personal Self-Assessment Tool.
  2. Your personal Self-Assessment Tool (SAT) should be designed based on Critical Skills Areas that you identified above in the EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS section above.
  3. In Column 1 enter Critical Skills Areas (no less than 5 and no more than 8). For example, Communication Skills.
  4. In Column 2 for each CSA enter 1-3 corresponding Critical Skills Subareas (=Competencies, or Units of Competency). For example, for Communications Skills you can enter Written Communications, Presentation skills, Oral Communications (depending on the requirements of the position or career path you have specified in the PROFESSIONAL EXPECTATION section above.
  5. In Column 3 enter Elements of Competency (i.e., single elements, activities that constitute a competency; in order to master a competency, one needs to master all or most elements). For example, for Written Communications elements can be a memo, an analytic report, etc.
  6. In Column 4 you have to identify kinds of evidence that you are going to use in order to assess your level of mastery of each element of competency. For example, in order to assess your ability to write analytical reports, youll have to present a report written by you.
  7. In Column 5 you have to suggest a method or technique for self-assessment for each piece of evidence entered in Column 4
  8. In Column 6 identify a benchmark, standard or a sample of best practice that can be used for self-assessment
  9. In Column 7 write down the results of your self-assessment.
