Persuasive Post and Reflection Assignment REVISED (15%)

First Read This: This assignment asks you to submit the wording for a persuasive social media post so that you can demonstrate your skills in a public-facing writing genre. This means that even though you are using wording for a social media post, you're not using a realistic format. Therefore, do not spend time trying to format a Word doc to look like Instagram. Do spend time figuring out what kind of length, tone and persuasion people use on Instagram.

Part A: Persuasive post (approx. 150- 500 words) (5 marks)

Using a social media format that you are familiar with (e.g., Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, GoFundMe, etc.), create the wording for a persuasive post that is appropriate to that genre.

Your post should have a clear purpose and communicate relevant details.

You should use appropriate genre conventions, appropriate grammar and spelling, appropriate tone and appropriate modes of persuasion.

You may use images in addition to wording, but I will not award more grades for multimodal elements.

Part B: Reflection (7 marks)

Considering your Part A writing, please answer the following reflection questions. Use specific evidence where possible:

1.Who is the primary audience for your post? State three examples of ways that your writing targets your primary audience. "General public" (or something similiar) is an insufficient answer.

2.What is the purpose of your post?

3.What genre is your post? State two examples of how you have fulfilled genre conventions.

4.Name and explain two rhetorical devices that you used in your post. (So: if you used logic, where and how did you use it?) (2 marks)

5.Name two counterarguments that you anticipate people may raise against your position. What have you done in your post to address these arguments? (2 marks)
