Physical activity (PA) has been shown to lead to improved survival in women following the diagnosis of breast cancer, but it is less clear whether PA has equally positive effects regardless of age at diagnosis. A study was conducted with the purpose of evaluating the association between post-diagnosis PAand survivalin women aged below or over 55years at diagnosis. Aprospectivesample of 1200 Swedish women aged 30-90years, who were diagnosed with breast cancer from 1990 to 2010 were included. PA (yes or no) were recorded over time.

  1. What type of study design was employed here?
  2. What is(are) the independent or explanatory or predictor variable(s)?
  3. What is(are) the dependent or outcome variable(s)?
  4. How many group(s) are being analyzed? Are they dependent (i.e. paired) or independent?
  5. What variable(s) are being analyzed? Is the data continuous or categorical?
  6. What statistical test(s) will be most appropriate for the analysis based on the primary outcome? Be sure to explain why the tests you have chosen are appropriate. (Hint: this has to do with survival, as such time is an important factor)
