Physics 1154: Lab Practical This is your final lab practical. In your groups, you will design and conduct an observation experiment to answer the research question provided. You may work as a team on acquiring the design and data acquisition, but you will be turning in individual lab reports. Look back at your old reports for help. Experiment reports will be graded using scientific ability rubrics. To help you know what we expect, the rubric criteria are included. Use the Observation Experiment Report Template as a guide. Research Question: How does the period of a pendulum depend on its physical properties? A pendulum is a weight suspended from a pivot so that it can swing freely. Figure 1 shows a schematic diagram of a pendulum composed of a piece of string and an attached mass called a \"bob\". The string is attached to a fixed point on one end, and the bob on the other. When the pendulum points directly down (Position A, Figure 1), the pendulum is said to be in equilibrium. When the bob is displaced to position B (Figure 1) with a taut string and released, the bob will swing forwards and backwards as shown in Figure 1. Figure 1: A pendulum composed The time it takes to make a complete swinging motion (going of a piece of string and an attached mass called a "hob\" from point B to point C and then back to point B) is called the period. You are interested in what physical properties of the pendulum system affect the period for small displacements. Materials You may use the following materials, and ONLY these materials: * 1 mlength of string 5 pennies * sticky tape joLab You will need to answer the research question for at least two general physical properties of the pendulum system. The rubric used to assess your individual report is provided below
