Place the conducting sphere in contact with the Van de Graff generator with your hand in contact with the conducting sphere. Turn the Van de Graff generator on and allow it to charge. Remove your hand from the conducting sphere and then turn the generator off. Bring the sphere close to some Styrofoam spheres or small pieces of paper and or other available lightweight objects
