Player 1 and player 2 are commanders in a paint ball game. The game works as follows: player 1 will attempt to use airplanes to drop a paint bomb on player 2's territory, while player 2 will attempt to shoot down the plane with the bomb. Two planes will be sent, a LEAD plane and a REAR plane (either of these can carry the single paint bomb while the other is a decoy). The lead plane has a probability of .6 of surviving an attempt to shoot it down, while the rear plane has a probability of .3 of surviving an attempt to shoot it down (it is in a less protected position). Player 2 can only attempt to shoot down one of the planes. What strategy should player one use in deciding which plane to put the bomb in (lead or rear), and which plane should player 2 attempt to shoot down (lead or rear)? Use a payoff of (1,-1) if the plane with the bomb survives (i.e. it successfully drops the bomb) and a payoff of (-1,1) if the plane with the bomb is shot down. The decoy plane being shot down does not affect the payoff. We are considering mixed strategies here, not just pure strategies.
