We supplied a major semiconductor test-machine manufacturer with considerable business in China. i remember one very complex 300-lb. casting our customer was forced by the Chinese government to source in C hina to be allowed to sell machines there. Although it tool: them three years to nd a Chinese foundry capable of m aki tag it, they nally did, and we lost over $l million in revenue. Further: the machining source in New Hampshire where we shipped the casting lost the machining work Like so many foundries, we closed in 2009. We must emulate the Chinese by requiring American companies to source port: in the US. Forget tari', require a specific amount of work be brought back to the U.S. over a period of years. it won 1' correct our problem overnight. but by bringing back an increasing amount of product and components each year we will achieve the desired result.
