Current Events A For each module, you will find a news story that relates to a topic in your textbook. Instructions: You must find a news story. In other words, the article must relate to something that happened, not just a general discussion of a concept. The news story must be something that has happened within the last year. Anything older than a year does not count. Examples of what is NOT a news story include, but are not limited to, a legal blog post, a Wiki article, a press release, or some other random web page. In most cases, if it is coming from something other than a news media source, it probably does not fit requirements of this assignment. (There may be some exceptions, but I cannot think of them.) If the news story is reported in a video and that video is available online, that is acceptable. Once one student posts an artide about an event, no other student can post on that event If you want to write a post about an event that happened last summer, but another student has posted about that same event, it is off-limits. This is the case even if you use a different article However, if one student has posted an article that involves the First Amendment, and the article that you want to write also involves the First Amendment (but is a different event), then that is acceptable To make sure that other students know that you have claimed the article the subject line of your post should be descriptive In other words, you should explain what you are writing about if you fail to follow this instruction, and another student picks your topic, then you lose the rights to it Your post must be a minimum of 500 words. The post must contain A summary of the article: A summary of the discussion in the textbook that is relevant to the artide Your commentary on the event involved and An APA citation to the article 9:40 PM 10/11/21 62 For this post, you may post a news story that relates to one of the following topics: The Commerce Clause (An article about general commerce is unacceptable. It must relate to the Commerce Clause in the United States Constitution.) The Supremacy Clause The Taxing and Spending Clause (An article about the constitutionality of taxation or spending is acceptable. An article about taxation or government spending generally is not.) Freedom of Speech Freedom of Religion Fundamental Rights (The article must actually mention the constitutionality of some action. An article that lacks any legal discussion is unacceptable.) Equal Protection (This cannot be an article about discrimination generally. The article must make some mention to the Equal Protection Clause.)
