The murder of John Raposo took place on June 18th, 2012. John Raposo was killed during a Euro Cup match when he was watching the game at the Sicilian Sidewalk Cafe. As a result of the killing Martino Caputo, Nick Nero, Robby Alkhalil and Dean Wiwchar were all facing charges of first-degree murder and conspiracy to murder. All four of them were found guilty under Canadian Federal law and were given life sentences with parole. However, the individual who directly killed John Raposo, Deam Wiwchar has yet to fulfil his sentence and Robby Alkhalil escaped the BC jail in 2022 where he was serving his sentence and has yet to be found. In this case, the four men involved in the murder of John Raposo were informed they were going to notify authorities of Nick Nero's drug trafficking involvement. Observing and receiving extrinsic rewards from those around us is one of the most influential ways of learning. Social Learning Theory suggests that a person may decide to partake in illegal activities to achieve their own ambitious goals implying that the offender may have committed a crime due to witnessing others engage in criminal activities. The individual negatively influencing them to commit a heinous act could be a family member, friend or even due to the media. In regards to this situation, the four men who were convicted along with the victim were all clearly aware of the ramifications of the drug industry and how it could detrimentally affect their lives. Being a part of such violent gangs, these violent tendencies were clearly witnessed and used in the past to get rid of any threats.
