Self-efficacy beliefs influence key work outcomes such as job performance and job satisfaction. Unfortunately, you likely have experienced, at one time or another, the feeling that you were doomed to fail at something (i.e., low self-efficacy). This activity is important because as an individual and as a manager or future manager, it is vital that you are able to (1) recognize the factors that impact your and/or your employees' self-efficacy beliefs, and (2) understand various actions you can take to improve self-efficacy beliefs in yourself and others. The goal of this exercise is to demonstrate your understanding of the different sources of self-efficacy beliefs and your ability to apply managerial tools to improve low self-efficacy beliefs. First, review the list of the four sources of self-efficacy beliefs. Then, read through the statements regarding employee self-efficacy beliefs and match each statement with the source of self-efficacy belief it best exemplifies. Now, review the managerial methods for building employees' self-efficacy and then read through the examples of managerial actions. Match each example of managerial action with the method for building self-efficacy that it best exemplifies.
