Nyari's Nights Lid. is a company that manufactures and sells full suites of bedroom furniture. The company is based in Canada but has manufacturing facilities in China and Taiwan. The Chinese plant manufactures the foam for mattresses, at variable costs of 200 Yuan, fixed costs of 150 Yuan and a selling price for the unwrapped foam of 500 Yuan per unit. The tax rate in China is 15%. From there, the foam is shipped to a plant in Taiwan where it is assembled and boxed into mattresses at a variable cost of $2000 Taiwan dollars, fixed cost of $1000 Taiwan dollars and can be sold for $6000 Taiwan dollars. The tax rate in Taiwan is 20%. In Canada, rustic log frames are constructed with two nightstands and and the total package is sold for $4,000 CAD. The Canadian division has variable costs of $750, fixed costs of $600 and a tax rate of 30%. The relevant exchange rates are 5 Yuan to 1 CAD and 20 Taiwan Dollars to 1 CAD. Nyari would like to look at the per unit incomes using market values, 200% of variable costs and 300% of full costs as the transfer pricing model. Required: Compute the income per unit from each division as well as the overall income Comment on which system makes the most sense for Nyari's company overall
