- MID TERM CASE: CHILLY CHILES - THE FIERY FOOD BUSINESS Chilly Chiles has been heating up Canada since 1993 and the owner, Blair Horvath, is proud to have been the first Fiery Food specialty company with the largest in store and online selection of hot sauces in Canada. The business is located in Manotick, Ontario (just outside of Ottawa). Blair's store offers one of the largest fiery food product selections in the world with over 1000 items and growingl. In addition to hot sauces, they also carry many other types of packaged heat, such as BBQ sauces, marinades, pepper purees, salsas, cookbooks, candies, popcorn, nuts and dried peppers! Blair's motto is 'if you can't find what you're looking for here, just let us know and we'll try to stock it! Additionally, Blair places tremendous importance on fast, inexpensive shipping and great customer service. Their customer base stretches from St. John's, Newfoundland to Victoria, British Columbia and all points in between. They also ship internationally to such diverse places as Ireland, the United Arab Emirates and Australia Blair is very happy with the success he has seen to date, but feels that he is missing an opportunity to expand into Western Canada where the provincial economies are booming and he thinks consumers have more disposable income. Ideally, he would like to open his first store in the west in Calgary He believes his store and concept is viable in Calgary but he has a number of questions that must be answered before he invests his time and money in this endeavour. Obviously, he has a number of important decisions to make and he is not sure how to approach the Calgary market or where to find the right Information.
