The idea that businesses need to offer more than just products to customers has been around for a long time. Indeed, it could be argued that the birth of advertising in the 1920s was based on an idea of selling ideas rather than products. (Shallen 2020). Total experience is a business strategy that focuses less on the products being sold and revenue generated, but both the customers and stakeholders overall experience with service provided. Total experience creates an avenue for stakeholders and customers alike to fully enjoy the process and convenience of how business operations are handled. First proposed by Joseph Pine and James Gilmore, the idea of the 'Experience Economy' stipulates that companies need to engage their customers with more than just products and services, creating a wider network of values, ideas and experiences that can elevate their product offerings to something beyond just the material. (Shallen 2020).

A5E Technology (2022). States the Four key components that constitute total experience.

  1. User experience

User experience is the overall experience that a consumer has while engaging with a brand, product, or service.

  1. Customer experience

Customer experience represents a sum total of favorable, bad, and neutral encounters that impacts the customer's opinion about the brand.

  1. Multi experience

Multi experience includes the experience of all the intermediaries other than users, customers, and employees.

  1. Employee experience

Employee experience is defined as the overall experience that an employee goes through while making a delivery of products or services.

Total experience is an important factor for organizations in that it adds authenticity and depth to a all sectors of the business. This will promote comfort, loyalty and trust among stakeholders which will prolong a stream of business. Total experience is essential to any component of business just by promoting an efficient user experience. My current occupation of REI for example has been around since 1938, providing service to its customers to promote the outdoor experience. REI utilizes total experience by offering free gear rentals, meet up groups, donation services, discount offers, lifetime membership, and more. All of this contributes to customers shopping at REI indefinitely which enhances customer experience and in turn overall user experience.

Total Experience can make services more accessible, which leads to faster productivity within a business. Total experience can also be used to generate more detailed insights, improving the perception of a service's quality. It delivers transparency that allows service providers to clearly demonstrate the value they are adding to the built environment. ( Ryckaert 2022). Trusty carpets can and must use this business strategy to not only promote their business further but also to increase customer relationship management and user experience. Trusty carpets are a relatively small company and by utilizing total experience to not only improve the satisfaction of his employees and customers would only increase growth of the organization. Jerry would benefit from this by having heightened moral in his business, better end products, and a closer relationship to both customers and employees alike.
