To be honest I really had zero prior knowledge regarding the rules on advertising and solicitation.It was just not something I really bothered to investigate in the past

I actually found the materials and cases quite interesting since this was a topic that I really had no prior knowledge on.It seems to me that the regulation of attorney advertising will continue to present challenging first amendment issues for courts as the bar will continue to protect the public from misleading and deceptive ads.I found it interesting that it was not until theBates v. State Bar of Arizonacase that attorney advertising can be seen as a form of commercial speech which allows advertising to be protected by the First Amendment in some degree.Nowadays, we live in a world run by technology so I really do think that advertising (especially electronically) helps attorneys and they should have some leeway as to what they can say.

I learned a lot from reading the chapters as well.For instance, I had no knowledgethat rules were put on targeted mail.I actually think that is a wonderful restriction that should continue on.It was also interesting to learn that some states prohibit testimonials and comparison advertising.
