Project Summary
As of March 6th, 2023, Group J has chosen the contractor to start and complete the construction of the homeless shelter. It is AMW Construction which is locally owned and operated in Sudbury. The next steps include both parties receiving and discussing the in-depth review of the building and floor plan. As well as finalize the budget and materials.
Purpose/Objectives
As people who have lived in Sudbury for several years, we see with our own eyes the homeless population is growing in Sudbury and we would like to make a change. We would like to renovate the building on 28 Paris Street which is the address of the old hospital here in Sudbury. In the end, we hope to minimize the homeless population on the streets of the city and have these people situated indoors where they can be kept healthy and safe.

CEO - Mackenzie White

The renovation construction manager is in charge of making sure the day-to-day needs of the renovation are carried out. Project managers collaborate with senior management Mackenzie to plan the short and medium-term goals of the project. The project manager also meets the schedule, organizes the resources required to do so, monitors the project budget, and bills the client for completed work. The project manager develops working sets of drawings and designs alongside monitoring the scope of work and any changes or additions to it. Lastly, the manager oversees document control.

They are also budget-conscious and identify opportunities to save money by reducing wasteful practices or increasing efficiency. They maintain site safety protocols daily on their site visits and ensure contractors and crew work in a safe environment and follow the rules. They work to minimize risk and resolve violations and potential hazards.
10 Workers
AMW Construction will have ten workers on-site at all times throughout the project and will complete all tasks outside of what the subcontractors are hired to do. Important/Critical Steps
Task 1: Plan for building demolition. The amount to be demolished will depend on the integrity of the building. AMW Construction will plan to demolish and dispose of sections of the building that will be replaced by the following steps.
Task 2: AMW Construction will rent large containers for waste.
Task 3: AMW Construction will carefully demolish all or some of the areas of the building that will be renovated.
Task 4: AMW Construction will also take into consideration the structural carpentry of the building. The moving of the building walls, construction of new walls, adding support to greater weight, adding frames for new construction windows, adding in doors etc. All this requires proper planning and with the help of a contractor, the baseline plan for the renovation will be laid out perfectly.
Task 5: Working on the exterior of the building. The gutters and siding can be put into place, and the roof can be completed.
Task 6: AMW Construction will get subcontractors to plan out the HVAC, electrical and plumbing jobs required for the renovation. These vital services need to be installed when the walls and ceilings are open.
Task 7: Installing windows in a new building is an important step in building renovation.
Task 8: AMW Construction will also plan for subcontractors to do the insulation and drywall. The subcontractor will recommend the best insulation options. AMW Construction will then get the drywall installed.
Task 9: AMW Construction will organize a group of painters, to handle the painting of the interior walls of the building. This of course has to be the last task that is done as doing it while the renovation is ongoing might damage the process.
Task 10: AMW Construction will also make a plan for the floor installation process. Regardless of the type of flooring chosen for the different rooms in the building, this should also be done after renovation to avoid damage.
Task 11: AMW Construction will make sure all kitchen appliances are installed and functioning properly.
