Using Charles Handy's theory of "Negative Power" (Theory 89), discuss a scenario whereby you are the CEO of a company, and a team in your company falls victim to groupthink, working blindly on a project proposed by their team leader but not endorsed by you. You are aware that the project will not only have short term significance, but on the long run, it will have adverse effects on the successfulness of your company. Although you did not endorsein fact have discouragedthat particular project, you decide not to confront or challenge the team leader, because you need him to remain motivated in working for you. Since this nonsensical project represents a battle that you believe needs to be lost, so that the war can be won, how will you use your negative power as CEO? How will you proceed without being identified and labeled as a saboteur?
