Assignment Brief and Guidance You have been hired as a sustainability technical engineer by a medium-sized Environmental design solutions' consultancy and have been assigned to work on a development project for a real estate company that wants to carry out a sustainable assessment on different apartments that it owns, you are assigned one of those apartments. You have been asked to visit the assigned apartment and to observe the current situation of the building through a video in addition to interviewing the dweller of the apartment, then you have to prepare a Sustainability and Environmental assessment report and an environmental assessment study for improving the performance of a single-family apartment in Jordan. This report you will provide: 1. A video of the current situation and observation of the apartment in the interior and in the exterior of the apartment, interviewing the owner and asking him questions that you have developed to gather information related to the assessment and monitoring of the apartment, this video is considered as part of the submission. 2. An overview of sustainability and its relevance to the built environment and construction (measures, approaches) -(Part 2) In Part one, the client needs to get acquainted with the aspects of sustainability in the construction field; including an overview of sustainability and its relevance to the built environment, this should discuss the pillars of sustainability, analysing the interrelation between the pillars of sustainability, and its importance in the built environment, and discussing how the humankind are affecting the surrounding environment. It should also analyse the ways in which buildings are unsustainable, and the challenges that the construction industry have in order to be sustainable. It is also recommended to critically evaluate how governments look towards addressing sustainability through legislation. This part will also provide the client with a comparison between the different measures of sustainability, and a comparison between the approaches that drive sustainability. By studying the sustainability measures, you will be able to examine how sustainability approaches drive the construction industry to a better impact on the environment. This will allow you to critically evaluate assessment methods and their aim to overcome the barriers to sustainable construction. 3. A study evaluating the environmental assessment methods and environmentally assess a single-family house building - (Part 3) Environmental assessment methods in this section you will provide an evaluation for the different environmental assessment methods, by comparing, evaluating and analysing between the different methods and their relation to different level schemes in buildings. You are asked to assess the given building by the client environmentally by using Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system. The building should be studied, analysed, environmentally assessed and then compare it with other similar buildings.
