10 pts CASE The "Sales Acceleration" Program: Case Summary:This short case describes a specific illustration of a form of earnings management that many managers use to achieve their annual (or quarterly) budget targets. They push the production line a little harder at the end of the accounting period to generate more shipments and billings. Since this method does not involve alterations of the accounting records, it is properly classified as an "operating" form of earnings management. But it does have an effect on accounting accruals; as sales increase, accounts receivable also usually increase in the short run.
