Project: Motivation and Dataset Assignment

Students should find a dataset with one regressor variable, x, and one response variable, y, that would interest them to explore. The student is to submit three primary components for this assignment.

1) The motivation for choosing this dataset: The explanation should answer the question, why does this dataset interest the student? (one hundred-word minimum word count) 2) The link to the location for the dataset itself (or, if not a link, then the actual dataset) 3) A scatterplot of the dataset Some rules and guidelines exist for this dataset. The more the scatterplot appears to be a completely random blob of points, the higher the probability that the dataset will be difficult to work with. Some pattern would ideally be visible. The pattern need not be linear, as we will deal with specifically nonlinear trends in the second half of the course. Ideally, both variables will be continuous. If a discrete variable is going to be used, it must take on a wide variety of numbers. Visually, we should not see many points lining up in either a horizontal line or a vertical line in the scatterplot. Consultation with the professor prior to submission is recommended prior to submission if concerns exist
