Ariel goes to see the sea witch, Ursula, who agrees to contract with Ariel. She will give Ariel 3 days to get the prince to kiss her, indicating his love for her. If she succeeds, she can stay human. Now a human and mute without her voice, Ariel woos the prince and several times he attempts to kiss her. Each time his attempt is interrupted by Ursula's minions.
