INDIVIDUAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN Update this Plan (every 30 days): 03/202l Creativity: Adaptable (Wingnder) - Thinking: Hands on Leaders (Wingfinder) 0 Drive: Condent (Wingnder) 0 Connections: Diplomatic (Wingnder) Self-Management (El) 0 Self-Awareness (E1) 0 Social-Awareness (El) 0 Relationship Management (EI) Wingnder Strength to enhance/expand (Plan #1): o v Thinking: Hands on Leaders Describe the actions/behaviors (work/school/or home) you want to expand and why you are committed to do this. Thinking: Hands on Leaders Overview My rst focus for my positive leadership development plan is strengthening my skills as a hands- on leader. According to Bennis (2013), you learn the best through your own experiences, you are your own best supporter and guidance. Utilizing my strengths oflearning quickly and through my experiences, 1 utilize my common sense and past experiences to be an effective leader. Plan #1 o v Self-Awareness Three Development Activities & Success Measures (quantitative and qualitative) Development Activity 1: Prior to presenting a new project to my team, Iwill collect resources I have previously developed or utilized to support them as they complete the project objective. Psychologist Piaget believes when we teach how to do something, we, we prevent exploration (Bennis, 2013). I am a leader who supports innovation and by sharing my past experiences with my followers, I do not expect my team to use my resources; however, by doing this they can learn from my past experiences to create new and innovative practices. EI behavior to expand (Plan #2): Coaches/ Support Resources One of my supports is my direct report, Janet. I will provide her a copy of my Development Plan so she can check in with me at any time. I will also ask her to add a status ofthis plan at our weekly individual meetings with her and myself. I will take her Timeline to measure progress (daily, weekly, At the beginning of the week prior to the assignment distribution, I will collect all need resources. On a weekly basis I will check in with each team member and provide support as needed. At the end of the month, I will Potential Obstacles Time Management Working from home has resulted in virtually jumping from meeting to meeting somedays for 9 hours straight. A lack of time limit may restrict me to the quality of experiences and supportI can provide to my team members. Procrastination- I tend to wait last minute to complete task due the volume of work and priorities that arise. My procrastination can prevent me from the success of the activities in my action plan because if I wait last minute to provide resources and support, it will not be as effective verse committing time and effort it requires to be and effective leader. Access to resources- Working from home I am limited to a laptop that I started using at the beginning of COVID. I have many resources and tools saved on my desktop in the ofce that I do not have access to from home. Not being able to access the resource I need can be an obstacle to my activities, so I will Measures: Quantitative- When presenting a new project to my team, I will provide at least three resources that can assist them with the objective of the project or learn something new by the end of the week the project was assigned. These resources will come from my past experiences in the eld of child development, articles I have used in my studies, or tools lhave developed. Qualitative My team members will learn something new or be reminded of practices/skills they can utilize in their roles through at least one resource I have provided. Development Activity 2: To continue strengthening my skill of being a hands-on learner, I need to set smaller steps to reach complex problems (Wingnder). When I am assigned a task that my team is expected to complete by a certain day, I will create small attainable goals (with my team) in which we are all create agreed upon smaller goals to meet the task. I will set a team meeting to elicit their timeline and goals which I will then create a visual timeline with due dates and send out to the team. When we reach a goal, I will celebrate the team's achievement by acknowledging their efforts and praise them to continue meeting our next goal. suggestions as to how to connect my goals and plans with that of the organization's goals. I will share the timeline and small goals set with Janet prior to distribution and will take her suggestions the connections of goals and plans with that ofthe organization's goals. We will also reect on progress made thought the time and the reect on the grow of skills and knowledge acquired by my team members through the resources and support I have provided. At the end of each week, I will check the status of accomplishments towards of our goal and reect on the progression. On a weekly basis I will check in with each team member and provide support as needed. I will collaborate with my direct have to be creative when looking for resources. My strength of creativity will help me in develop ways preventing or limiting these obstacles, like creating a calendar with milestones we need to reach as a team to maximize time management and reduce procrastination. Measures: Quantitative- 1 will send out a weekly email to all the team members involved with the update of the status of our timeline, celebrating our progress as encouragement to reach the next goal, Qualitative: 1 will have an individual meeting with each of my team members bi weekly to see how I can support them in succeeding in reaching the smaller goals. effectiveness of the small goals toward the completed project. report if needed to receive coaching on how I can better support the team during our weekly individual meeting. Development Activity 3: In order to be an effective leader, I need to take care of myself (Bennis, 2013). The Wingnder recommends a hands- on leader to work on relaxing and clear the mind. If I am anxious and stressed out do to work, I am an being a supportive leader because I am not giving my team members my full attention. To unwind and clear my mind I am scheduling a walk around my neighborhood to disconnect at least three times during my workday. Measures: Quantitative- Because my workday schedule uctuates day-to-day, I will start each morning and see when I can schedule each of my three walks. Qualitative During my walks, I am going to play music to disconnect from work and try to reduce my mind from thinking about my workday. I will connect with Janet and ask for her support in allowing my time to disconnect that will not interfere with my other duties. She and I will reect on the effectiveness on my disconnections. At the end of each day, lwill note on a journal whether I was able to complete all three walks throughout my workday. Based on the outcomes, I may need to revise the goal or ask Janet for support on reaching this goal. During my individual meetings with Janet, we will reect on the outcomes on my emotional state by allowing myself time to disconnect. Plan #2 Self-Awareness Overview My second focus for my positive leadership development plan is strengthening my skills in self- management. By understanding my emotions, I will be able to resolve difficulties I encounter throughout the day appropriately in a way where I learn about myself and my emotions. Understanding my emotions will help me lead in a more effective way where 1 allow myself to react to situations and lead without the inuence of my personal emotions. Potential Obstacles: Self-doubt I truly am my own hardest judge. An obstacle I continuously face if myself doubt. This effects my abilities due to my questioning if I am doing enough or being too hard on myself when I truly do the best 1 can. My self doubt can cloud my understanding and learning of my self-awareness. Time-Management Working from home has resulted in virtually jumping from meeting to meeting Development Activity 1: When creating my monthly calendar where I allocate times throughout the month to complete my duties, I will schedule transition times to allow for reection. During these transition times, 1 will write in my journal where 1 created a column for activities and emotions. Bennis (2013) believes that in reecting on your experiences it allows you to better understand yourself. I will write down the activity I took part in and what emotions those activities trigger to get a better understanding ofmy emotions in certain activities. Measures: Quantitative- I will have at least two journal entries per day, with a minimum of 10 entries a week. At the end of the month, I will look through my journal to determine trends in my emotions, triggers, and how I reacted. Qualitative- I will look at the data from my journal entries and determine trends like what causes emotions like anger, happiness, excitement, nervousness, etc.... Using that information, 1 will reect on my reactions and how 1 can appropriate react without having inuences from my emotions. My other support/ coach is my colleague, Marlene. She holds the same position as me in a different program option and have many similarities in our expectations. She is extremely creative in how she views things in our role. I would like to review my plan with her and check in with her at the end of each month so I can reect with her, and she can help me improve my practices for the following month. At the beginning of the week, I will ensure I incorporated reection time between tasks in my workday. One a weekly basis I will check in with each team member and provide support as needed. At the end of the month, I will reect on the grow of skills and knowledge acquired by my team members through the resources and support I have provided. somedays for 9 hours straight. A lack of time limit may restrict me to the time I need to dedication to learning about my emotions and what triggers those emotions. Obligations and other job requirements- My coordinator roles require many tasks, and my work weeks quickly fill up with other focuses along with supporting my team. The short due dates of my other requirements take much of my time. In order to limit the possible obstacles, my self-management strengths are going to be essential in reaching my goal of strengthening my self-awareness skills. By scheduling my time to allow myself to reflect and complete all my other duties assigned, 1 will be able to focus time the success of my activities. Development Activity 2: Completing '3 Good Things' activity at the end of each day to highlight the positive occurrences throughout the day. Every day I will write entries in a journal which will consist of any three good things that happened on that day. According to my Emotional Intelligence report, I need to stay aware of emotions and how I respond to those emotions. Measures: Quantitative I will have at least three journal entries at the end of each day, with a minimum of 15 entries aweek. Qualitative- At the end of the month, I will look through my journal to detemrine trends what brings me positivity and the cause of that positivity. Based on my trends, I will focus my attention on those things that brought happiness and positivity in myself and do activities that also brought positivity in my day. I will practice that positivity as a leader for my team so they can so experience positivity every dat. I will invite Marlene to complete this activity with me and share some trends we saw with one another. We will collaborate as to how I can make our work environment and more positive one for each of our team members. At the end of each week, I ensure I have input my entries required for each day of that week. At the end of the month, I will look through my journal to determine trends what brings me positivity and the cause of that positivity and do more that welcomes positivity. From what I have learned, the following week I will try to implement those practices to be a positive leader in my team. Development Activity 3: I am going to take the time to slow down to assess the situations I am in to calmly making decisions. By slowing down my decision making, I and reecting on not only what triggers my emotion but that 1 am not making decisions based on my emotions (Bradberry & Greaves, 2009). I will be scheduling a break in between my Virtual meetings every day to take time to reect and acknowledge my emotions before jumping into the next project. Measures: Quantitative- Because my workday schedule uctuates day-to-day, I will start each morning and insure I have at least 5 minutes of reection after or before my virtual meetings. Qualitative During my reflections, I will respond to the following questions in a journal: \"How do I feel after this meeting? Why,\" \"What were your thoughts on the meeting topic?\" \"If you could change anything in that meeting what would it be and Why?\". At the end of the ween I will reect on the responses and look for trends in emotions and feeling. I will notify Janet and Marlene of this plan of action so they can help me stay accountable and support me by reminding me of taking the time to reect. Janet and I will discuss the progress ofmy reection during our weekly individual meeting. At the end of the month, I will look through my journal responses to determine trends in my emotions and what triggered those emotions. At least once a month, during my individual meetings with Janet, I will share my most common emotions and the reasons for those emotions along with what I can do to continue or change those emotions after meetings. From what I have learned, the following week I will try to implement those practices to be a positive leader in my team
