Introduction to "American History" The short story we're reading today is titled "American History" by Judith Ortiz Cofer. The story is told in first person narration which means the narrator is a character in the story. Since the story is told from the narrator's point of view, we will only know the internal thoughts, feelings, and conflicts of the narrator, Elena. Whenever we read first person narration, we have to determine whether our narrator is trustworthy or unreliable. What are some reasons we should question first person narration?
