Honors Standing Wave Spring Lab Materials Needed: 1. Spring 2. Smartphone timer 3. Meter stick (make measurements in centimeters and convert to meters by dividing by 100) Tape Procedure: 1. Stretch spring out with moderate tension with one person at each end. Place tape where each person's hand is and then measure that distance and record in in column 2 on chart below (note: you should keep distance the same for all trials) 3. Be sure to place the spring along one of the cracks in the floor so you can use the crack as your equilibrium point and measure your amplitude from crest down to the crack 4. Next one person holds their end of the spring still while the other person moves their end from side-to-side to generate one crest/peak 5. The third person using their smartphone will time how long it takes one crest to travel up and back and then record that time in column 5 of the chart below 6. Next the third person will mark how high the crest was (mark with foot or piece of tape) then stop the spring and measure from the mark down to the crack in the floor and record the number in column 3 in the below chart.
