Project Objectives

Include a high level summary of the project purpose, objectives and expected benefits (elevator pitch)

Project Scope

Address the major deliverables that the project includes. Capture key deliverables, resources, financials, and milestones associated with each major work package within the project. Examples of areas that could be examined are data, processes, applications, and business areas. Major requests outside of the scope would be potentially subject to the Request for change process or PCR if the change involves a vendor.

Specific information that may be helpful:

  • Types of artifacts (ex. detailed user documentation and test reports)
  • Major life cycle processes (ex. market research and continued enhancement)
  • Types of data (financial, sales, employee information)
  • Data sources (ex. billing, general ledger, payroll systems)
  • Organizations (ex. HR, sales, marketing)
  • Major functionality (ex. decision support, data entry and management reporting)

Out of Scope

Clearly state which deliverables that the project excludes that one might normally expect the project to include.

ProjectBenefits, KPIs and Deliverables

List and describe what is required for the project to be completed. Include the expected benefits (qualitative and quantitative), critical success factors and key performance metrics for the project.

Project Assumptions

Describe any project assumptions related to delivery, design, business, technology, resources, scope, expectations, or schedule. Assumptions are required to be validated and signed-off with key stakeholders associated to the function of the deliverable.

Project Dependencies

Address all cross-dependencies and prerequisites which include proposed technical and business unit initiatives and resource draws.

Project Constraints

Describe any project constraints being imposed in areas such as risk, scope, schedule, budget, resources, products to be reused, technology to be employed, products to be acquired, and interfaces to other products. List the project constraints based on current knowledge.
