Hi everyone, my name is Kayla Groesbeck. I live in Upstate New York and currently work as a veterinary technician in an animal hospital. I have very generalized experience with organizational conflict as an employee. I am usually not one to be directly involved in conflict, and I also don't go to management very often with any issues/problems. I have seen organizational conflict from an outside perspective, and that's about it. In the next five to eight years, I hope to be in a new career field in a management position of some sort. In the Garden Depot case study, one specific conflict is that Bowman can't correctly order inventory due to Sinclair's lack of ensuring the job slips are accurate (Koopmans, 2007). The critical issues that need to be resolved include lack of communication, lack of knowledge in job tasks, and company awareness. Bowman knows the importance of these job slips, but when Sinclair just shrugs it off, Bowman just leaves frustrated. Also, Sinclair doesn't have the experience or knowledge on how to correctly do his job. Lastly, Sinclair doesn't realize how much he really is hurting the company emotionally and financially (Koopmans, 2007). Now that the problems have been defined, we can move on to the next stages of DMAIC. Using this model, it's important to consider the viewpoint of all parties involved, and that some stages may need to be reconfigured if no appropriate result is reached.

To measure the conflict, we can collect information about why these conflicts are happening, and then set goals to reach to resolve the conflict itself (The Lean Six Sigma Company, 2023). To analyze, we have to look into why these conflicts are happening. Sinclair and Bowman are both at fault in some regard, so doing research into both parties is crucial to reach a desired outcome (Koopmans, 2007). To improve, Bowman and Sinclair need to communicate, or have outside help come in to mediate conversation. Together, the team can come up with improvements and conclusions to help rectify the situation and in turn, help the business. To control, we need to make sure that these same conflicts don't arise in the future. Creating permanent solutions that are for the greater good of the company and employees is important. These solutions can then be used for any future conflicts, so that they don't become bigger, organizational problems. I would approach this conflict will full transparency and lots of communication. Instead of leaving frustrated with no answers, I would sit and talk through everything that is going on. Also, I would make sure that other management personnel were present to help mediate and brainstorm ideas. Having a management team where everyone is helpful and on the same page is very important if the Depot wants to run efficiently and effectively.
