BUS 212 INTERNATIONAL MARKETING INSTRUCTIONS PART 2: ADAPTING MANAGEMENT PRACTICES Background The analysis of the international institutional environment provides the backdrop for Part 2 of this project. Based on the previous individual report (Part 1), the backdrop to this group assignment is knowledge of how the institutional environment of the chosen countries differs from New Zealands. The content of this group assignment should align with the institutional profiles of countries described in the individual report(s) in Part 1. Careful selection of group members will reduce or eliminate the need for, or the amount of additional research required on institutional environments. The Task The task is to suggest specific international management practices (or decisions) that a New Zealand firm should adapt while operating in the chosen countries. Provide clear research-informed insights on what and how to adapt. Suggest three such practices and ensure the discussion includes (1) the formal and informal institutional differences; and (2) a managerial practice/element drawn from an area other than human resource management. Working in groups of three or four, create and upload a five-minute video clip explaining how to anchor management practices in the realities of the institutional environments considered. The video should show evidence of research including scholarly references, drawn from journal and magazine articles, as well as relevant textbooks. The Approach 1. Introduction (1 minute or less) Clear identification of team members An outline of the countries Overview of the three practices 2. Discussion - International Management Practices (3 4 minutes) The comparison of New Zealand and two chosen countries (i.e., the individual report) provides the platform for suggesting the need to adapt management practices. While most of the topics covered in this course are closely linked to Human Resource Management (HRM), the discussion must include a management practice from a functional area other than HRM (e.g., marketing, supply chain, public relations, production, finance/accounting). Examples of HRM-related aspects encompass the role of relationships, communication practices, negotiation styles, decision-making practices, global talent management, motivation, and leadership practices. Outside HRM, other relevant practices comprise setting up a distribution network, developing corporate social responsibility programmes, or determining the right price for your product. Note that this list is not exhaustive and there are numerous other management practices worth considering. The discussion should specify the type of management task (i.e., planning, organising, leading or controlling) and the level (e.g., corporate, strategic business unit or operational) associated with the management practice under consideration. Most importantly, the discussion should clearly articulate how a New Zealand-based client should adapt the selected practices to ensure effective operations in the chosen countries. 3. Concluding Remarks (1 minute or less) Provide concluding remarks including managerial implications to bring your report to a logical ending.
