Please help me with a response to this discussion. Thanks. Steganography is data hidden within data. It is the hiding of undisclosed message within an ordinary message and the extraction of it at its destination. Steganography is an encryption technique that can be used along with cryptography as an extra-secure method in which to protect data. The purpose of steganography is covert communication to hide the existence of a message from a third party (What is Steganography?, n.d). In steganography, data is first encrypted by the usual means and then inserted, using a special algorithm into redundant data that is part of a particular file format such as a JPEG image. Think of all the bits that represent the same color pixels repeated in a row. By applying the encrypted data to this redundant data in some random or no conspicuous way, the result will be data that appears to have the noise patterns of regular, no encrypted data (Rouse M, n.d). Steganography provides some very useful and commercially important functions in the digital world, most notably digital watermarking. In this application, an author can embed a hidden message in a file so that ownership of intellectual property can later be asserted or to ensure the integrity of the content. An artist, for example, could post original artwork on a Website. If someone else steals the file and claims the work as his or her own, the artist can later prove ownership because only he/she can recover the watermark (Steganography for the Computer Forensics Examiner, n.d.).
