This role supports the Faculty's research initiatives by providing management and care services for animals, including general and technical procedures adhering to established policies.

As a Senior Animal Technologist, you will assist the facility manager in the daily operations of a designated unit, overseeing work planning, prioritisation, and ensuring animal welfare in production, care, and experimentation. You will deliver professional and efficient service to researchers by providing quality animals and actively supporting research projects. Additionally, you will supervise and train senior and junior team members in animal husbandry, care, and welfare, in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures, while ensuring a compliant and safe operating environment

The Senior Animal Technologist is expected to maintain up-to-date specialist knowledge of new and innovative methodology, equipment, technology, data management and analysis, including implementing changes to practices and training as required.

We are seeking someone with aDiploma of Applied Science (Animal Technology) with subsequent relevant work experience in a laboratory animal facility environment or an equivalent combination of relevant knowledge, training or experience in an animal facility environment. A genuine passion for working with animals and a collaborative work ethic are essential.

The Senior Animal Technologist is responsible for the day-to-day running of a designated unit and promotes animal welfare with respect to animal production, care and experimentation. The Senior Animal Technologist provides a professional, efficient service to researchers by supplying quality animals and actively participating in and supporting research projects. In addition, the Senior Animal Technologist oversees and supervises other team members in the delivery of animal husbandry, care and welfare of laboratory animals in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), while ensuring a compliant and safe operating environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Plan, implement, deliver and oversee the provision of high-quality animal research services. Perform comprehensive animal care and husbandry activities in accordance with defined procedures and standards 2. Provide a key leadership role within the team through the provision of expertise, training, and support, by embodying the cultural qualities of care and accountability, and through the delivery of activities or tasks that may be delegated by the unit manager.

3. Perform and optimise operational activities in the work area. Contribute to and oversee work planning and prioritisation, resource allocation, compliance and quality evaluation and monitoring. 4. Liaise effectively with staff and stakeholders to identify, document and resolve issues associated with the day-to-day operations, including escalation of more complex issues as required 5. Actively participate in and initiate continuous improvement activities including but not limited to operations, compliance, animal wellbeing, and human health and safety 6. Undertake all duties and responsibilities to the highest of ethical standards and in compliance with legislation, regulatory requirements, university and departmental procedures and take steps to identify, eliminate and/or minimise risks and undertake necessary reporting where appropriate 7. Build and sustain effective working relationships with a network of colleagues, clients and other stakeholders to facilitate high quality operations, service provision and meet customer requirements. 8.
