Please help me with the following questions. Phase 1 must be used for the standard deviation as well as the mean. The part being answered is Phase 2:

Phase 2: You decide to move forward with testing additional participants. The IRB allow you 5 individuals in a small sample. After exercising 5 hours each day for a week, the hours spent sleeping from your new sample are below: 9, 8, 7, 5, 7. Please use information about the population standard deviation from "Phase 1", when answering questions from "Phase 2."

PHASE 1 You believe that exercise affects the amount of time spent sleeping. You pilot your study on one individual to see if the results seem promising enough to move forward with the research question. From your research, you know that the average adult sleeps 6.7 hours per night ( = 1.5). These are (untreated) population parameters. (You know that people exercise on average .5 hours each day.) You ask your research participant to get 4 hours of exercise each day for a week. On the last day of the week you measure how long he sleeps, and he sleeps for 8 hours.

A. What is Population 1

B. What is Population 2

C. What is the Null hypothesis (in symbol format): Ho: u1-u2=0 (is that correct?)

D. What is the Alternative (i.e., research) hypothesis (in symbol format): Ho: u1-u2 does not =0 (is that correct?)

E. What is the Independent Variable

F. What is the Dependent Variable

G. M (mean of your sample)=

H. M(standard error of the mean - use the population parameter from Phase 1)=

I.n (number of people in your dataset)

J. Z score

K. p value

L 95% confidence interval (using the information from the sample in Phase 2)

M Using the information above, what is your power (in probability notation) to detect an effect if it is truly there?

N Is this adequate power?
