Please help me with the historical development of the South African law and legal system, by giving me points on the following:
- Prior to 1652 a variety of indigenous legal systems existed in southern Africa.
- From 1652 the laws of the Netherlands' province of Holland applied at the Cape.

- However, the British invaded again in 1806 and this time it was permanent - at least until SA formally
- became a republic in 1961.
- During the 19thcentury two Boer republics, each with their own legislatures and laws, were also
- constituted.
- From 1948 a system of institutionalised racial segregation (apartheid) was adopted.
- Independence from Britain and a new Constitution adopted 1961. However, no basic rights were
