- Also the the tax which is being collected by the employers must be paid or remitted to the government of Nunavut. The reporting and remittance requirements depend on the annual remuneration. If the employer is seasonal then the remittances will be annual. If the annual earning is $200,000 or less the remittances will be annual. If the earnings are between $200,000 to $600,000, the remittances will be semi-annually.
- Therefore in the scenario of earnings being between $600,000 to $1,000,000, the earnings will be quarterly. For annual earnings higher than $1,000,000, the remittances will be monthly and the reporting period for annual remittances is each year ending December 31. For semi-annual, it is every six-month ending June 30 and December 31. For quarterly remittances, it is each three-month period ending, march 31, June 30, September 30 and December 31. For monthly remittances, the reporting period is each month ending the last day of the month.
- Finally all employers with employees working in Nunavut are required to collect taxes and remit to the department of finance with annual taxable remuneration and annual return. This annual return must contain the names of employees, their annual remuneration, their social insurance numbers, their taxable remuneration, and the amount of payroll tax paid. The annual return is required to be reported regardless of whether the employee is eligible for payroll tax or not.
- And in addition then an employee who generally works in other provinces earned $4,500 in Nunavut and $50,000 in other provinces. He will not be eligible for paying payroll tax as his annual income by providing services in Nunavut is less than $5,000.
