1 Supersonic travel has been in the news recently, thanks to the work of Elon Musk and his novel idea ofthe hyperloop. It has been decades since the demise of the only commercial plane to travel faster than the speed of sound. The Concorde flew passengers at speeds twice the speed of sound. However, it was decommissioned due to a variety of factors. Fast forward 40 years later and there is a theory that a tunnel with its air evacuated to nearly a vacuum state would be able to provide conditions to maximize speeds. For example, with no air there would be no air resistance slowing the train down, along with an electromagnetic track system that would also minimize friction. Recently, there was a test run of small robots that were propelled down a hyperloop tunnel. The maximum speed obtained by the pod was 90 mfs or 324 kml'h. This was a reminder that we are far from reaching the speed of sound (approximately 332 ml's in air). However, it is a sign of progress in this revolutionary idea. Before this technology comes to fruition, it is a good exercise for scientists to recognize the benets and risks of a hyperloop mode oftravel. Your task: You will research the technology and summarize your findings in point form using the six hats process outlined below. You will also be asked to reflect on your ndings by answering two questions. You will submit both the six hats notes and the reection questions for feedback from your teacher. The following are articles that you may choose to use for this assessment, or you can search for your own articles using key words such as hyperloop, hyperloop travel, andlor supersonic travel. You may also choose to explore the following podcast about the hyperloop: \"Hyperloops and starshots". While you complete your research, take point form notes using the \"six hats" activity. In the following activity, you will consider the issue from six different perspectives (as if you were taking a different role or perspective with each color hat). Make notes under the following colour categories to help you understand the variety of perspectives. White hat: Make point form notes on the facts. Only facts, no opinions. Yellow hat: Make notes from a perspective of positivity or optimism around this issue. Black hat: Make notes from a opposite perspective (or opposite point of view). What might go wrong? The downsides? Red hat: Make notes about your own feelings, instincts and ideas. Green Hat: This is the space to be creative. Are there other options? Creative solutions? Any new ideas you may have? Write them down in your notebook. Blue Hat: This is the perspective of monitoring the process. Do your best to ensure that you have taken the 5 different perspectives. Review your notes. Reection Questions: . Did you consider the issue from the different perspectives? 2. Could you have improved your process at all
