Scenario 2: The Only One for the Job

Mahalia has lived all her life in a small rural town that is more than 200 miles from the nearest mid-sized city. She is a BCBA working in a school district and has specific training in assessing and treating severe challenging behavior. Her best friend is Alma, who has been the Special Education Coordinator for the district, has just been promoted to the position of Director of Special Education. With her promotion, Alma is now Mahalia's direct supervisor. Alma's son is in kindergarten and receives special education services. Recently he has begun to engage in severe aggression and his IEP team has initiated a request for a functional behavioral assessment (FBA). Mahalia is the only person in the district who is qualified to lead the team in conducting an FBA.
